    A friend of mine keeps suggesting wrapping a rubberband tightly around the joint. I haven't tried it, so I don't know how effective it is.

    Depends on the joint, I hate to say it but the ONLY solution I've found for ankle joints is
    Cyanoacrylate glue. I used to use that white stuff (don't know whay you call it) that has the consistancey of chewed bubble gum , and that works for bigger joints like thighs, shoulders etc.. or small joints that don't require much weight like elbows.
